How yabby works

The core concepts behind yabby — organizations, websites, synced channels and videos, publishing states, and plan limits.

A few concepts explain almost everything in yabby. Once you know how websites, channels, and sync fit together, the rest of the product is straightforward.

Websites and organizations

When you sign up, yabby creates an organization for you. Websites belong to the organization, not to your personal account — that's what makes it possible to work on the same sites with teammates. You'll find all your websites in the dashboard under Websites; clicking one opens the website editor.

Each website is served at https://<slug>.yabby.page, and on paid plans you can attach a custom domain instead.

Channels and videos

A website is built from one or more YouTube channels. When you add a channel, yabby imports its videos as read-only copies: title, description, thumbnail, publish date, view count, and duration all come straight from the YouTube Data API.

Because the copies are read-only, YouTube stays your source of truth. If you fix a title or update a description on YouTube, the change propagates to your yabby site on the next sync. What you control in yabby is presentation and curation: which videos are hidden or featured, how they're sorted, and how the site looks.

Sync

Sync is how your site stays current. Each sync imports new videos and updates existing ones — metadata, thumbnails, and view counts. How often this happens depends on your plan:

PlanSync frequency
FreeManual only ("Sync Now" button)
ProDaily
PremiumHourly
MaxEvery 15 minutes

You can always trigger a sync yourself with the Sync Now button next to a channel in the editor.

New videos don't have to go live immediately

By default new videos are published automatically. If you switch the new video mode to curated, new videos arrive hidden and stay off your site until you approve them. See Videos.

Publishing states

A website is always in one of three states. Draft means the site exists and you can preview it, but it isn't publicly reachable. Published means it's live at your subdomain or custom domain. Archived takes a site offline without deleting it — useful when you want to keep the setup but stop serving the site.

Publishing requires a paid plan

Free-plan websites stay in preview. Publishing requires Pro or higher.
